What About Smartphones?

At the moment, setting up VPNs on mobile/handheld devices is rather tricky and we leave that for advanced users. However, if you have any questions we will try and help. However, users of the Nokia N96 are among the first with the ability to run the BBC's iPlayer on their mobile phones. A purpose-built application is available to download via the BBC website and will also be pre-loaded on some handsets. The BBC iPlayer allows UK audiences to download and stream BBC TV and Radio programming from the past seven days. A Nokia spokesman said the service would be 3G and wireless compatible and that Nokia would not charge to use it.

on iPhone

L2TP is an extremely strong method of creating a secure connection, and is one of three methods that the iPhone 2.0 Software and later support. (Alas, the iPhone can’t maintain a seamless VPN connection when you roam among Wi-Fi networks or between Wi-Fi and cell data networks; you have to disable and then re-enable the VPN connection for each network move.).

Other Devices?

Many Internet enabled entertainment devices are capable of browsing the Net and playing video content. However due to the different standards and formats, available each device has it's pros and cons. And again, most of these require some "hacking" in order to change the functionality (which may void your warranty etc).
  And Apple TV?

Apparently Apple TV is VPN-through compatible and can quite possibly play BBC iPlayer content, for example. Although VPN will knock Apple TV off the rest of your network so it is a bit fiddly and best left to advanced users.
